Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you'd want to know before booking — and a few things you might not think to ask.

Do we meet first, before I book?

Yes — and it's free. Every new client gets a complimentary 20–30 minute Meet & Greet at your home before the first booking. Here's what we cover:

  • Meet your pet(s) and let them get comfortable with me at their own pace
  • Walk through feeding, medication, leash routes, favorite spots, quirks
  • Exchange keys / lockbox codes / alarm instructions
  • Trade contact info for you, your vet, and an emergency backup
  • Answer any questions about insurance, scheduling, or pricing

For anxious or reactive pets I'm happy to do two short meetings instead of one — whatever helps them feel safe.

How does house sitting work?

Two ways to book it, depending on what your pet needs:

  • Overnight house sitting — I sleep at your home and keep your pet's routine going through the night. Charged per night. This is the standard pick for travel.
  • Daytime house sitting — I'm at your home during the day with no overnight stay. A good fit for work trips where you're back by evening, post-surgery recovery, or pets who only struggle when the house is empty during the day.

In both cases I won't be at your home every minute — I have other visits and short errands between them — but your pet is never left alone for more than 2–3 hours at a stretch. You'll get my rough daily rhythm before the booking starts so there are no surprises.

Need someone there around the clock? I also offer a 24-hour stay for pets who genuinely can't be alone — recovery from surgery, severe separation anxiety, very young puppies, end-of-life care. This is a special add-on at a higher rate (since I block out all my other visits for the day), so please request it explicitly when you reach out.

What a typical stay includes: feeding on your schedule, walks and playtime, medication, litter box / yard cleanup, mail and packages brought in, plants watered, a light on in the evening for security, and the house left exactly as you found it. If there's anything else you'd normally do day-to-day — trash bins on collection day, blinds opened, a specific toy rotation — flag it at the Meet & Greet and I'll fold it in.

How do you handle keys and home access?

Whatever's most comfortable for you: physical key handover at the Meet & Greet, lockbox code, smart-lock code, or a key kept securely between bookings (clearly labeled by pet name, never by address). Codes are never stored in plain text.

What happens in an emergency?

I carry your vet's number, your emergency contact, and the nearest 24-hour animal hospital for every booking. I'll always call you first if there's time — if it's urgent, I'll transport to the vet immediately and update you en route. I'm fully insured through Rover, Meowtel, and an additional private pet-sitter policy.

Do you take reactive or anxious dogs?

Yes — most of my regulars are sensitive, shy, or reactive in some way. I keep walks calm and predictable, avoid trigger zones if you flag them, and use only the harness/leash setup you already use. For reactive cases I always recommend two Meet & Greets so your dog and I are familiar before you leave.

Can you give medication?

Yes, at no extra charge — oral pills, liquids, ear/eye drops, topical treatments, and subcutaneous injections (insulin, fluids) for diabetic and senior pets. We'll walk through the routine together at the Meet & Greet.

Multiple pets — is there an extra charge?

A small per-pet add-on after the first, but a lot less than you'd pay on the platforms. Contact me directly for a quote tailored to your household — that's almost always the better price.

Holiday surcharge? Cancellations?

Major US holidays carry a modest surcharge (booked in advance — holidays fill up fast). For cancellations, I follow Rover/Meowtel's standard policies when booked through them; for direct bookings, cancellations more than 48 hours out are fully refundable.

Will I get updates while I'm away?

Always. Every visit comes with at least one photo or short video and a quick note — feeding, walk distance, mood, anything notable. For overnight stays you'll get a morning and evening check-in by default.
